From 2021 till now, approximately 1,500 Pakistani Hindus have returned to Pakistan. ‘Most of these Hindus are returning to Pakistan because they don’t have money or documents to complete the formalities required to obtain Indian citizenship’, Hindu Singh Sodha said.

1. Currently, 25,000 Hindus in Pakistan are seeking Indian citizenship. Since last 10 to 15 years these Hindus have been living in India and since they are not sure of getting Indian citizenship, 1,500 Pakistani Hindus have returned to Pakistan from Jaisalmer in Rajasthan in the year 2021.
2. Hindu Singh Sodha said that in the year 2004 and 2005 camps were organised to grant citizenship. Among them, approximately 13,000 Pakistani Hindus received Indian citizenship, while only 2,000 Pakistani Hindus were given citizenship in last 5 years.
3. According to the rules of the Ministry of Home Affairs of India, applying for citizenship requires renewal of the passport of a Pakistani immigrant and also submission of a certificate from the Pakistani embassy for the passport to be held valid. So it costs a lot. Pakistani Hindus return to Pakistan as there is no guarantee of getting Indian citizenship even after incurring these expenses.
