BJP MLA Prashant Thakur informed the Vidhan Sabha
– Mr Sachin Kaulkar, Representative
(Ijtema means people gathering for a meeting in large numbers)
Mumbai – A Ijtema at Kharghar held between 31st January and 2nd February 2025, organised by Anjuman Madrasa Arabia Islamia Cosimul Ullum Hakkaniya Masjid’ had given a letter to CIDCO that 50,000 people would be attending the Ijtema. But actually, the Ijtema was attended by more than 3 lakh Muslims. This shocking news was given by the BJP MLA Prashant Thakur on 21st March to the Vidhan Sabha. Prashant Thakur called the attention of the Government to this serious issue through the Calling Attention Motion. Minister of State for Home while answering this issue said that the permission that was given for holding the ijtema at the CIDCO Corporate Park in the area with in the Panvel Municipality.

MLA Prashant Thakur added, the organisers had assured that they would post ‘300 volunters for managing traffic, 300 volunteers for keeping the area clean, 300 volunteers for security, that is it would put in place 1,200 volunteers. Shiv Kumar Sharma was beaten up with his helmet in the Ijtema square. He died because of this attack. There were no traffic police present there nor any volunteers of the Ijtema. Shivkumar Sharma tried to go the Police Station to file a complaint, but he died within 7-8 minutes. The volunteers did not come to his aid. And those who had the responsibility of law and order were not able to fulfil their word hence a case to be registered against them. (Why should such a demand have to be made ? Do the Police not realise this ? – Editor)
Will investigate the permission given – Yogesh Kadam, Minister of State for Home
The permission given for the religious programme that was held at CIDCO Corporate Park in the jurisdiction of Panvel Municipality. What was period for which the permission was given would be investigated. Henceforth, care would be taken while giving permission for religious ceremony that go on for a long time, assured Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam
Yogeh kadam further said, that 600 Police were provided in accordance to the demand of the organisers for that function. More people gathered at the venue than the number for which the permission was given. On the first day 15,000, second day 25,000, and on the third day 3 lakh people attended. Hence from now on care will be taken while giving permission for such religious functions.
Plan to make Kharghar into Mumbra (a Muslim taluka in the Thane District)
MLA Prashant Thakur said, illegal masjids are being built in Kharghar. Space for offering namaz is being given in restaurants and basements. Stickers put-up in the train give offer the offer and say ‘will give facilities for offering namaz’. In this way a conspiracy of making Kharghar, Taloja, area into Mumbra. 58 days permission was given for this Ijtema is what has been shown.
Yogesh Sagar took note of this fact. If the Government land is given for 58 days to an organisation for a religious function; should be noted else this could set a state wide precedent, he pointed out.
