Tehran (Iran) – Foreign Ministry of Iran has given a clarification that Iran was not involved in the brutal attack that occurred in New York on the 12th of August 2022 on Salman Rushdie, an American writer of Indian origin. He is seriously injured in this attack and is undergoing treatment. It is said that he might lose one eye. Hadi Matar, a 24-year-old man, stabbed Rushdie with a knife.

During his interrogation, it has been found that Matar was a staunch supporter of Iran. Salman Rushdie received life threats in the decade 1980 for the book ‘Satanic Verses’ authored by him. The then topmost leader of Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini issued a ‘fatwa’ against Salman Rushdie in the year 1989. The assailant has pictures of Ayatollah Khomeini and Ayatollah Khamenei, the current Chief of Iran, on Facebook. As per NBC, an American media group, Hadi Matar has also uploaded many posts in support of Iran and ‘Revolutionary Guards’, the personal army of Khamenei. There are his posts even encouraging Shia extremism.

Attack on Rushdie is a conspiracy !  – the USA

Antony Blinken, the US Foreign Minister, said, “Salman Rushdie is a supporter of freedom of expression. He also raises his voice for the sovereign rights related to religious freedom and freedom of media, along with the freedom of expression.
