Kolkata, Bengal – In the wake of violent incidents in Murshidabad, BJP MLA and Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, led a ‘Save Hindus’ march demanding the formation of “Village Protection Committees” and issuance of licensed weapons to minority Hindus in the region for their self-defense.
Adhikari expressed concern over the growing vulnerability of Hindus in Murshidabad, stating that the time has come for Hindus across the country to be empowered to defend themselves with legal arms. “These Hindus are the ones who will protect our deities, our nation, and our religion. Otherwise, they will be slaughtered,” he warned.

Political Resistance and Legal Action
Suvendu Adhikari claimed that despite being the Leader of the Opposition, he was barred from entering Murshidabad, while others were freely allowed. “The ruling Trinamool Congress is obstructing my visit. I have approached the High Court regarding this, and the matter will be heard soon,” he said.
He also demanded the imposition of President’s Rule in the state during the election period, citing that Hindus have become a minority in Murshidabad, with their population now below 50%.
Targeted Attacks on Hindu Families
Through a post on social media, Adhikari highlighted the recent attacks on two Hindu families in Dhuliyan, Samserganj. The homes of Ganesh Ghosh and Chhaya Singh were allegedly set ablaze, destroying funds they had saved for building homes and wedding expenses. Adhikari stated that his party has extended financial assistance—₹5 lakh to one family and ₹1.5 lakh to the other. He emphasized that these families had no ties to the Waqf board, and their only “crime” was being Hindu.
Governor Raises Alarm Over Law and Order
West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose visited the violence-hit areas of Murshidabad on April 18 and 19. Describing the situation as “bizarre and brutal,” he said the people had voiced serious concerns about their safety. “I will be submitting a detailed report to both the state and central governments shortly,” he added.
The Governor also commented on the declining public trust in the ruling Trinamool Congress. “Pre-election violence has become normalized in Bengal. One community is trying to dominate another through force,” he said.
