Prime Minister performs ‘Yoga’ with 15,000 people on the International Yoga Day

New Delhi – The eighth international Yoga Day was celebrated on the 21st of June 2022 in the world, including India. Prime Minister Modi had gone to Mysuru Palace ground to celebrate the ‘Yoga Day’ and performed ‘Yoga’ with 15,000 people. Prime Minister Modi said on the occasion that ‘Yoga Day’ has become a global event now. Yoga is not a part of life, but it has become a path of life.

Every year, a theme is decided to celebrate ‘Yoga Day’ on 21st June. This year the subject chosen was ‘Yoga for humanity’. The Ayush Ministry has stated that the purpose of deciding this subject was to give assurance to people who have been facing physical and mental stress during the period of Corona pandemic. The subject selected for ‘Yoga Day’ for the last year was ‘Yoga for wellness’.

1. Yoga gives the confidence of healthy life to human beings.

2. The photos of  Yoga, which were seen only in spiritual centres till a few years ago, are now seen everywhere, in all corners of the world.

3. Yoga gives us peace. Practising Yoga can establish peace in the country and the world. It can solve all our problems.

4. Despite being under stress, performing few minutes of Yoga helps in increasing our positivity and productivity. We, too, want to practise Yoga.

Soldiers perform ‘Surya-namaskar’ in snow !

The soldiers from Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) also performed ‘Yogasanas’ right from Ladakh to Chhattisgarh and from Guwahati, Assam to Sikkim. They performed ‘Surya-namaskar’ at the height of 16,000 ft in Himachal Pradesh and at 17,000 ft height in Ladakh.

How the ‘Yoga Day’ was celebrated at international level !

  • A ‘Yoga’ programme was organised at Naigara Falls in the USA on the eve of ‘Yoga Day’. A large number of Indian and American citizens attended this programme.
  • Muslim women performed ‘Yoga’, wearing ‘burqa’, in Pakistan
  • On the eve of ‘Yoga Day’, ‘Dharhara’ Tower in Kathmandu, Nepal was illuminated with lights.

Why is 21st June celebrated as ‘Yoga Day’?

The main reason for celebrating ‘Yoga Day’ on the 21st of June is it is the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere. It is also called as ‘Summer Sankranti’. As per the Indian traditions, it is believed that the Sun moves towards South after summer Samkranti and people’s life increases by performing ‘Yoga’ on this day; therefore, 21st June is celebrated as ‘Yoga Day’.
