
Washington (USA) – The United States has imposed personal sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, holding them directly responsible for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The United States has also imposed sanctions on Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu and Russian military chief Valery Gerasimov.
- The United States is responding to Russia’s aggression in Ukraine with the help of its allies and partners by imposing sanctions on Putin, Lavrov, and Russia’s Ambassador to the UN Security Council, according to a statement from the US Treasury Department.
- It is very rare for the treasury department to impose sanctions on the head of any country. The list includes Putin, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
