Thrown out of the race for the post of CM for being a Hindu in Sikh-dominated Punjab : Resented Congress Hindu leader Sunil Jakhar

Editorial comments

  • In India, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, who are minorities, occupy top positions like President, Prime Minister, etc., but realise that Hindus do not get a prominent place where Hindus are a minority in the States like Kashmir, Punjab, etc.
  • While other religions enjoy all the minority facilities, secularism in India is only for Hindus, when will Hindus realise this ?
  • Even though Hindus are a minority in 9 States of the country, they do not get any minority benefits there, it is a shame for Hindus.

Chandigarh (Punjab) – Punjab Congress leader Sunil Jakhar said he was thrown out of the competition for the Chief Minister’s post as he was a Hindu and Punjab is a Sikh majority State. Congress will announce its contestant for the CM’s post soon. Aam Aadmi Party has announced Sikh leader Bhagwant Mann as its candidate for the CM. Current Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu are already in the race for the post of Chief Minister as Congress candidates.

In an interview to India Today, Jakhar said, the Congress advisors in Delhi are not giving proper advice. It is understandable if  I was not an MLA, I was not nominated for CM candidature, but to say that since I am a Punjabi Hindu, I cannot be nominated for the post of CM, is completely unfair. By this, a whole community is hurt. He further said if Congress wants to back a Dalit candidate, it should continue doing it. The party should decide at the earliest as to who will be their candidate for CM in Punjab.
