New Delhi – As per the report of the National Crime Records Bureau and Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), there was an increase in the crime rate by 275% in Delhi between 2013 and 2019. In 2013, the number of crimes registered was 86,800 while in the year 2019, this number had increased to 2,99,475. As per CAG’s report, the lack of amenities provided to the Police was the reason for an increase in crimes.

1. In 2019, 5,185 cases were registered in Delhi. In 2013, the number was 4,159.
2. Compared to 2019, there is an increase in the cases of rape by 43% in Delhi in 2020. There were 1,712 complaints of oppression of women by their husbands and in-laws and in 56 cases, murders were committed in connection with the dowry.
3. In 2011, 53,353 crimes were registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and this number was 1,75,027 on 15.08.2021.
4. Crimes registered in connection with senior citizens were 906 in Delhi in 2020 which is the highest among 19 cities of this country.
