‘Bandh’ is a crime of harming the country and the people for their own demands and causing them the loss of thousands of crores of rupees ! To cause the loss in this way is treason ! The Government should also pay attention to ensure that such a situation should not arise when people need to resort to agitations.
New Delhi – The 8th December bandh called by farmers against the three agriculture Bills passed by the Central Government passed off peacefully. The shut down was peaceful except for minor incidents of violence. After the bandh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah invited the farmers’ association for a discussion, said farmer leader Rakesh Tikait.
- During the bandh, which was held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the farmers who were holding agitations for the last 13 days closed the roads on Delhi borders but gave permission to essential services.
- The Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi has alleged that state Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was placed under house arrest by Delhi Police; however, the police denied the allegation.
- In Jaipur, Congress workers protested in front of the BJP office. Activists from both the parties clashed and pelted stones at each other.
- The bandh was also observed in Bihar. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) activists blocked roads and staged protests in some places.
- The bandh received a mixed response in Uttar Pradesh. Section 144 was enforced at Lucknow. Samajwadi Party workers stopped a train at Prayagraj.
- In Bengal, trade unions marched in support of the farmers’ movement.
- In Karnataka, Congress MLAs supported the agitation outside the Assembly. The communists protested at Kalburgi. In the States of Bengal and Odisha, Communist parties blocked trains.
- Protesters also blocked trains at the railway station in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha.
- In Gujarat, on the Ahmedabad-Viramgam highway, Congress workers burnt tires and staged a road blockade. This caused a traffic jam. The protesters had blocked national highways at Vadodara and Bharuch. The Police apprehended a few agitators in Ahmedabad.
