Case relating to alleged insulting remarks about Prophet Muhammad in 2022

Bhagyanagar (Telangana) – Prominent Hindutva leader and MLA T. Raja Singh was acquitted by a special court here in a case dating back to August 2022. A case had been registered against him for allegedly making objectionable remarks about Prophet Muhammad. The verdict was delivered by the Special Court for MPs and MLAs. He had remained in custody for 77 days in 2022.
Raja Singh’s advocate, K. Karuna Sagar, said that the court found the prosecution had failed to prove the charges and therefore acquitted the MLA.
Victory of truth ! – MLA T. Raja Singh
T. Raja Singh, who represents the Goshamahal Assembly constituency, welcomed the court’s verdict and described it as a “victory of truth”. He alleged that the then Bharat Rashtra Samithi government had acted against him under pressure from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
He further said, “I have always presented my side while remaining within the framework of the law and the Constitution. Today, all the allegations levelled against me have been proved false in court. This is a victory of truth, justice and the rule of law.”

After action was initiated against MLA T. Raja Singh under the Preventive Detention Act in August 2022, he remained in prison from 25 August to 9 November 2022. Following the alleged objectionable remarks, the BJP also suspended him from the party. Later, ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections, the BJP revoked his suspension and once again fielded him as its candidate from the Goshamahal constituency in Bhagyanagar. He was re-elected to the Telangana Legislative Assembly. Last year, MLA Singh resigned from the BJP after he was denied permission to file his nomination for the post of president of the party’s Telangana unit.
