IPS officer arrested in ₹3 crore bribery case

Promised to provide relief to an accused in a counterfeit medicine manufacturing case

New Delhi – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Deepak Gahlawat on charges of demanding a bribe in connection with a counterfeit medicine manufacturing case. He allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹3 crore from a businessman, promising to provide relief in the CBI investigation into the counterfeit medicine manufacturing case underway in Puducherry.

At the time, Deepak Gahlawat was serving as Regional Director of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security on central deputation. Last month, a total of seven people, including Pradeep Singh and Rajkumar, were arrested in connection with this case. The CBI had seized ₹25 lakh as part of the bribe amount, ₹90 lakh in cash, several documents, and digital evidence.

Several incidents have come to light in which patients lost their lives due to counterfeit medicines. Police officers who shield criminals in such cases should have all their assets confiscated and be awarded the death penalty !
