Decide within 15 days on removing YouTuber Dhruv Rathee’s video about Hindu Deities: Delhi High Court

  • Delhi High Court directs the Union Govt

  • Order passed on the petition filed by Advocate Amita Sachdeva

New Delhi – The Delhi High Court has directed the Union Government’s Grievance Appellate Committee to take an urgent decision within the next 15 days on whether the video uploaded by YouTuber Dhruv Rathee regarding Hindu Deities should be removed. The video has been accused of being defamatory and of hurting religious sentiments.

The order was passed on an appeal filed by Advocate Amita Sachdeva. Advocate Sachdeva has also filed a criminal case against Rathee over the video.

Insult to Hindu Deities will not be tolerated: Union Government

Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, appearing for the Union Government, told the court, “This video contains objectionable statements about Hindu Deities, and these cannot be tolerated. Either the intermediary should remove this video on its own, or a court order directing it to do so should be issued.”

What exactly is in the video?

Advocate Sachdeva has objected to a video uploaded by Dhruv Rathee on 21st March. The title of the video is ‘Can Hindus Eat Beef? Kerala Story 2 Exposed’. In the video, Rathee discusses eating habits mentioned in Hindu scriptures. He argues that ancient scriptures and sages have referred to Deities such as Shriram and Shrikrishna consuming meat.

Editorial Perspective

Dhruv Rathee, while living abroad, is publishing videos making statements against Hindu Deities. The Union Government should not merely remove such videos, but should also make efforts to bring him back to India!
