Concern across the world over Hanta virus infection !

Geneva – After the corona virus pandemic, concern over the Hanta virus has begun increasing worldwide. This virus spreads from rodents to humans. So far, eight suspected cases have been reported globally, out of which five have been confirmed. Three patients have died. Last year, 28 people died due to this virus.

1. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, stated that passengers aboard the luxury cruise ship “M. V. Hondius” who were infected with the virus, are currently traveling toward the Canary Islands after stopping in Cape Verde, Africa.

2. Spain’s Health Ministry has granted permission for the ship to dock. The vessel is expected to arrive at a Spanish port on 9 May. Detailed screening of all 110 passengers and crew members onboard will be carried out. The ship will also be disinfected.

3. According to the World Health Organization, alert warnings have been issued to 12 countries, including the United States and Canada. Eighty passengers from these two countries were on the ship. They had returned to their countries on 24 and 25 April.

4. Two crew members on the ship are Indians, which has caused concern in India as well.
