NIA Raids ‘Gulshan Colony’ known as ‘Mini Bangladesh’

  • A haunt of Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators

  • Hardly any legal Indian candidate is in the area of two lakh population

  • In 2011, hundreds of buildings were constructed as soon as TMC won elections

Raid by the National Investigation Agency

Kolkata (Bengal) – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) recently conducted several raids in the notorious ‘Gulshan Colony’ area known as the centre for criminal activities of Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators and violence. This colony was built and expanded as TMC came to power in 2011. Hundreds of buildings were erected within few months. It is being alleged that Kolkata Municipal Corporation has no legal record of the development in this area. The local residents have accused that Bangladeshi citizens have been settled there with the support of TMC leaders.

In-depth review brings forth frightening facts

There are two lakh Muslims in Gulshan Colony area with Muslims as majority population. In the last review of the electorate list held in November 2025, it was found that 90% of the people were not legal voters and were originally from Bangladesh. Still, they claimed to have voters ID.

Army deployed in Gulshan Colony

A large army squad was deployed in Gulshan Colony area as a precautionary measure before the second phase of the elections so that the State Assembly elections could be held peacefully and to promptly face every kind of challenge. These squads were deployed even in East Bardhaman, South 24 Pargana, Hooghly, Nadia and Howrah districts. As per the information shared by the officers, inquiry is being conducted into the cases of seizure of raw material for making bombs, stock of illegal weapons and arms, etc.

Incidents happened in connection with Gulshan Colony despite Central security agency’s presence

1. Kolkata Police confiscated 79 explosives made locally from the garbage area of North Kashipur near Gulshan Colony. A case has been filed in this context.

2. A large stock of explosives was kept by unknown persons in a dilapidated house near a grave yard in Majerhat (Palpara) colony near to Gulshan Colony. The whole area is known as the citadel of AITMC.

3. Both the incidents drew attention of people to Gulshan Colony. As per the reports, about 90% residents were outsiders but were living there for many years.

Gulshan Colony’s reality explained by BJP leaders and Bengal Police

1. A senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari accused that infiltrators have been living in Gulshan Colony for many years.

2. In 2024, the Union Minister Dr Sukanta Majumdar had drawn attention to the changes in demography in the area and stated that the area has become a centre of Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators causing rise in crimes and anarchy. The area seemed to have become ‘Mini Bangladesh’.

3. A Kolkata Police Officer informed that in the past few years, Gulshan Colony has become a safe haven for criminal activities and criminals. Many criminals came from outside the State and country. The dark lanes and building too close to each other, makes it easy for criminals to run away or hide during sudden raids.

Problems faced by local residents

1. There are incidents of violence every week. People living in the surrounding areas also live under terror. They avoid parking their vehicles outside or go out late in the night.

2. The situation is so serious that people in surrounding areas are always under fear of a revolver or a weapon pointed at them at any time.

Editorial Perspective

Let us hope that Hindus from Bengal must have withdrawn the democratic support extended to Trinamool Congress (TMC) for giving shelter to Bangladeshi infiltrators. TMC should now be banned irrespective of the election results.
