Iran warns of a strong retaliation

Tehran (Iran) – The US carried out air strikes on Iran in the early hours of 8th July, allegedly violating the ceasefire. According to the US Central Command, more than 80 Iranian military sites were targeted. The Iranian military warned, “This is a violation of the agreement between the two countries, and the US will receive a strong retaliation.”

1. The US stated that the operation was carried out in response to attacks on three vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The US has held Iran responsible for those attacks.

2. The air strikes targeted Iran’s air defence system, command and control centres, coastal radar installations, surface-to-air missile systems, anti-ship missile systems, drone launch sites and more than 60 naval vessels. According to Iranian media, several explosions occurred in Sirik, Qeshm Island and Bandar Abbas, and fires broke out at some locations.

Iran targets three vessels in the Strait of Hormuz

While the funeral proceedings of Khamenei were underway, Iran targeted three vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. One of these vessels belonged to Qatar. Iran warned that if vessels failed to follow the routes designated by it, their security could not be guaranteed.

Qatar condemns Iran’s attacks on vessels

Qatar condemned Iran’s attacks on its vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and held Iran fully legally responsible for them. Qatar also stated that Iran’s attacks pose a threat to international maritime security.

No talks with the US in an environment of threats: Iran

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi clarified, “No agreement can be reached in an atmosphere of threats. The US must first honour the existing agreements.”
