Washington (USA) — A resolution has been introduced in the US Congress stating that the large-scale killings, rapes, and atrocities committed by the Pakistani Army in Bangladesh during the 1971 war should be recognised as genocide and crimes against humanity. The resolution has been presented by Congressman Greg Landsman. During this period, more than 3 million people were killed, over 200,000 women were assaulted, and millions were displaced.
Take action against groups like Jamaat-e-Islami !
The resolution states that Bengali Hindus were specifically targeted during the violence. It also calls for action against groups such as Jamaat-e-Islami.
Additionally, an appeal has been made to the President of the United States to officially recognise these events and to ensure attention is given to the safety of minorities in Bangladesh.
Editorial PerspectiveIt is important to note that a large number of Hindus were among the victims, and lakhs of Hindus were forced to flee to India; however, India has not officially termed it as a ‘genocide of Hindus’. In this context, a US Congressman raising such a demand after 55 years, is significant. |
