According to the complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, on the evening of 12 March 2026, around 7:00 PM, her daughter stepped out of the house to hand over some clothes that had been brought for washing. At that very moment, a Muslim boy known to her called her on the phone and asked her to meet him near a school located off the Haridwar Bypass. When she arrived at the designated spot, two other Muslim boys were already present there. The trio lured her into a nearby forest. Once inside the forest, they mixed a sedative into a soft drink and forced her to consume it. After the girl fell unconscious, the three boys gang-raped her. On the morning of 13 March 2026, the accused dropped the girl, still in an unconscious state, outside her home using an e-rickshaw and fled the scene. Upon regaining consciousness, the girl recounted the entire ordeal to her family members. As soon as news of the incident broke, activists from the Bajrang Dal arrived at the Police station and staged a demonstration, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.
Editorial PerspectiveCan individuals capable of committing rape truly be classified as ‘minors’ ? Such individuals should not be released after receiving lenient sentences simply because they are minors; rather, the state’s BJP Government must strive to ensure that they are punished as adults. |
