New Delhi – India is one of the most targeted countries for cyber frauds in the world, according to a new report by Meta for the year 2026. These primarily include scams carried out using AI (Artificial Intelligence).
Difficult to identify scams done using AI
According to the report, social media is being misused on a large scale in cyber scams. Organized criminal gangs are running scams like a business. Fake conversations, emails and websites are being created with the help of AI. Fraudulent messages are being created with ease in different languages. Users are being cheated by setting up a completely fake commercial system. That is why it has become very difficult to identify scams done using AI.
Cyber scams carried out from abroad
A serious warning has been issued in the report about an AI app called ‘Nudify’. This app easily created a person’s fake pornographic photos / videos. ‘Deepfake’ (a photo, video or voice generated using AI, which looks real; but is actually fake) Technology has made the nature of cybercrimes more dangerous. Meta’s investigation also found that some cyber operations are being run from networks in Iran, Pakistan, Russia and China.
New laws needed to tackle AI-based frauds
According to experts, it is not enough to just enact strict laws in this regard, but it is essential to increase digital literacy. It is equally necessary to enact new laws for AI-based frauds.
