Series of attacks on minority Hindus continues in Bangladesh

  • Minor Hindu boy murdered in Feni district of Bangladesh !

  • Attack was premeditated ! – Allegation by the boy’s family

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Violence against minorities in Bangladesh continues unabated, with Hindus increasingly being targeted. In the Lalpol area of Feni district, a 16-year-old Hindu boy, Santu Kumar Saha, was brutally killed.

Santu was waiting in a rickshaw at the Miazzi Petrol Pump for his companion. At that time, some jihadis allegedly attempted to seize the vehicle. When Santu resisted, the jihadis took the rickshaw towards a bridge on the highway. A vehicle passing from there struck Santu, resulting in his death.

Santu’s family has alleged that he had also been targeted earlier during Iftar, which indicates that the attack was premeditated.

Just two days earlier, in Bangladesh’s Comilla district, bombs were hurled at Hindus who had gathered for prayers. The explosions created panic in the area. Many people had to flee to save their lives, while several others sustained injuries.

Editorial Perspectives

  • The newly elected Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Tariq Rahman, had claimed that attacks on Hindus in the country were political rather than religious in nature. However, the continued killing of Hindus even after the elections shows how hollow and baseless this claim is. India must now demand an explanation from Rahman !
  • Whether it was the earlier interim government led by Mohammad Yunus, widely regarded as an instrument of the United States, or the present government elected through the democratic process, attacks on Hindus have remained the same during both regimes. This clearly indicates that Bangladesh has become a veritable hell for Hindus.
