New Delhi – According to the 2023–24 Religious Landscape Study by the Pew Research Center, Hindus in the United States are the most educated religious community, with 70 percent holding a college degree. This is double the national adult average of 35 percent. The report was released on February 19.

After Hindus, 65 percent of Jews have a degree or higher. Other religious groups also show above-average education levels: over 40 percent of Muslims, Buddhists, and Orthodox Christians hold at least a degree. Mainline Protestant Christians exceed the national average, while evangelical Protestants, Catholics, and historically Black Protestant church members have lower graduation rates.

The survey, conducted between 17 July 2023 and 4 March 2024, included 36,908 U.S. adults. Pew attributes the educational advantage largely to migration and demographic patterns, as many Hindus, Muslims, and Buddhists arrived in the US through higher education or skilled labor programs.

Editorial Perspective

It is a matter of shame that America’s highly educated and cultured Hindus, who have consistently contributed to society, still face racist attacks and discrimination.
