America bows to Pakistani pressure

New Delhi – On February 7, the office of the United States Trade Representative posted a map of India on its official X (formerly Twitter) account. In that map, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Aksai Chin were shown as parts of India. However, the map has now been removed. Reports indicate that the US office had to delete the map following diplomatic pressure from Pakistan.

Pakistan had lodged protests both with the US Embassy in Islamabad and with the United States Trade Representative office in Washington. Pakistani officials reportedly told the United States that the map was contrary to America’s longstanding position on the issue.
After the United States first posted the map of India, many in India had welcomed the move. It was being viewed as a significant shift in US policy. However, following the removal of the map, discussions have now begun regarding the matter.
