‘Grok AI’ broadcasting obscene photos of women on X account

  • Users are uploading pictures of women and asking Grok AI to convert them into obscene pictures

  • Angry reactions globally

New Delhi – Today’s world is the world of AI and almost everyone is using it in one way or another. However, its socially dangerous and uncontrolled consequences have also come to light. X’s AI chatbot ‘Grok’ is circulating obscene pictures of women in an uncontrolled manner. People are giving ‘Grok’ a well-dressed picture of a woman and asking ‘Grok’ to share a picture of the woman wearing short clothes. ‘Grok’ is also broadcasting more provocative and obscenely dressed pictures directly to everyone on social media. Interestingly, these images look very realistic. If a user asks to make the woman’s expressions in the picture sexual or erotic, ‘Grok’ is also fulfilling that request. This has caused a wave of anger against ‘Grok’ and ‘X’ owner Elon Musk at the global level.

AI chatbots usually work in a private environment. This means that if a user asks a question to an AI medium, its answer is limited to that user. However, Grok has been found to be acting uncontrollably. When asked Grok about its reason, it replied that Elon Musk has presented Grok as a ‘spicy’ AI medium with fewer restrictions than its competitors.

‘Grok’ is directly invading physical privacy, which is a punishable offence : Advocate Amita Sachdeva

In this regard, Supreme Court advocate Amita Sachdeva said that this trend is dangerous, illegal and a violation of India’s digital security framework. The dissemination of such images without the consent of the individuals concerned is a direct invasion of their physical privacy. Under Section 66E of the ‘Information Technology Act, 2000’, when images of a person’s private parts are taken, published or disseminated without consent, then invasion of privacy is a punishable offence. Sachdeva further said that if such ‘AI edits’ are used to repeatedly target women, action can be taken under Section ‘354D’ of the Indian Penal Code.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Just as AI, or artificial intelligence, is being used in positive and constructive ways, its disadvantages are also increasingly being exposed. This is the result of technology without Dharma.
  • Please note that such incidents are indicative of the moral decline of humanity.
