Pakistani-origin Muslim father-son behind the attack on Jews in Sydney (Australia)

Sydney (Australia) – The death toll from the Jihadi terrorist attack on Bondi Beach during the Jewish Hanukkah festival on December 14th has risen to 16. This includes a 10-year-old girl and an Israeli citizen. 45 people have been injured. Father Sajid Akram (age 50) and his son Naveed Akram (age 24) carried out the attack by shooting. Sajid was killed in Police firing, while Naveed was injured. Both are of Pakistani origin. The Hanukkah festival to be held in Melbourne was cancelled after the attack. Australia has an estimated 1,20,000 Jews. Of these, an estimated 60,000 Jews live in the city of Melbourne.

Sajid came to Australia from Pakistan 27 years ago and started living in a rented room here. He got married here and started a fruit-selling business. His son Naveed was born in Australia. The Police are investigating if Sajid has connections with any terrorist organizations and who else is behind the attack. In 2019, the Police questioned Naveed for 6 months on suspicion; however, the Police found that he was not dangerous.

Firing with a licensed firearm

According to the Police, Sajid Akram had a licensed gun, which he used for hunting. He was a member of a gun club and had a license as per the State law. He legally owned 6 guns. Before leaving to shoot, the duo had told their family that they were going fishing.

The Australian Government was alerted in advance : Israeli PM Netanyahu

Netanyahu said that he had already warned; but the Australian Government did nothing, which resulted in this horrific attack.

After Australia recognized Palestine, Netanyahu wrote a letter to Prime Minister Albanese on August 17th, informing him about this. The letter said, ‘The Government’s policies are encouraging anti-Semitic sentiment in the country. Recognizing Palestine is like pouring oil in the anti-Semitic fire. This encourages terrorists and spreads hatred against Jews in Australia. After the Gaza war (since October 2023), anti-Semitic attacks in Australia increased; but the Government has not taken concrete steps to stop them. They consider this a weakness of the Government.’

Editorial Perspectives

  • Keeping in mind that ‘Terrorism does have a religion and terrorists target people of other religions’, the world should try to destroy the terrorist mentality.
  • Declare Pakistan a terrorist country and boycott it.
  • It wouldn’t be surprising if Israel attacked Pakistan to avenge the attack on the Jews.
