Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) – In the backdrop of the Navratri festival in the city, pro-Hindu organisations raided a factory that made idols of the Goddess Durga. The idols made in this factory, based on artificial intelligence, were not the traditional forms of the Goddess Durga. Therefore, pro-Hindu organisations alleged that the faith of Hindus was being tampered with. The idols made girls look like characters in a ‘cartoon’ series shown to children. Hindu Utsav Samiti President Chandrashekhar Tiwari stated that, using artificial intelligence, i.e. AI, to make idols of Goddess Durga look like girls, will not be accepted. Goddess Durga should be in the form of Mahishasuramardini, riding a lion or Kalimata. (The original images of Hindu Deities have been proven to be divinely inspired. Keeping this in mind, any alteration in them is a form of parody of the Deities, and the efforts made to create awareness among the sculptors are commendable. – Editor)
1. During the raid, activists of pro-Hindu organisations also asked the sculptors about their religion. They made it clear that idols of Shri Durga Mata should not be made by Muslims or bought from Muslims.
2. They appealed to the Shri Durga Puja Committees to install only traditional idols.
3. Society does not permit changes in the form of religious symbols in the name of modernity. The police and the administration are now investigating.
