A Demand to impose ‘Jizya’ Tax on Hindus and Other Non-Muslims in Bangladesh

(Jizya tax is a tax historically collected from non-Muslims for their protection under Islamic rule.)

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Non-Muslims living in Bangladesh should be made to pay the ‘Jizya tax’. Since Muslims pay ‘Zakat’ (A portion of their wealth donated for religious purposes), if equal rights are desired, then Hindus should pay the Jizya. This is what is correct as per Sharia law, said a leader of the political party Jamaat-e-Islami in a public gathering. He has made such statements on several previous occasions as well. Despite the seriousness of the statement, the head of the interim Government, Mohammad Yunus, has yet to take a clear stand. No condemnation or clarification has been issued, which has sparked speculation of a possible conspiracy.

According to sources, this demand is not merely based on religious rules, but rather is part of a pre-planned plot. The main objective is to economically weaken Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians, treat them as second-class citizens and exclude them from the mainstream through religious discrimination.

Will Hindus Have to Pay Double Tax ?

Hindus will have to pay the religious tax called ‘Jizya’.

If this demand is accepted at the Government level, then Hindus in Bangladesh will have to pay a separate religious tax — the ‘Jizya’ — in addition to regular taxes. This could lead to social polarization, increased tension and religious conflict.

Editorial Perspective

In Islamic countries, minorities have no rights and are subjected to religious persecution. In contrast, in so-called secular India, minorities (especially Muslims) are given preferential treatment, while the majority is suppressed !
