Does the government not have enough funds? Why must it beg?

Bangladesh’s leader Muhammad Yunus

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – After the recent plane crash, Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the interim government, faced criticism for appealing for donations. As a result, he withdrew his appeal.

Professor Yunus had posted on Facebook urging citizens to donate money, stating that the funds would be used to support the families of those killed or injured in the crash. However, many people criticized both Yunus and the government. A person named Amin Soni commented, “Mr. Yunus is now begging to run the country.” Others questioned, “Does the government not have enough funds to help the victims of the crash?”

Following the backlash, Yunus deleted the post.

So far, 32 people have died in the crash, and more than 150 have been injured. In the aftermath, citizens are also questioning, “Why is the government still using old Chinese aircraft?”
