Kolhapur – On the occasion of Guru Purnima, and as mentioned in the Nadi readings by the Maharshis, Shrīchitshakti (Mrs) Anjali Mukul Gadgil, the spiritual successor of Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Jayant Balaji Athavale, had the opportunity to have a deeply devotional darshan of Shri Mahalakshmi Devi in Kolhapur on 10 July 2025. During this visit, she offered a sari and khana-naral (blouse piece and coconut) at the feet of the Devi and participated in the aarti. At this momentous occasion, the temple priests offered her the garments used in the ritual worship as prasad.

Shri Tryambuli Devi – A Brief Introduction

Shri Tryambuli Devi

The temple of Shri Tembalai Devi, also called Shri Tryambuli Devi, holds historic and religious significance in Kolhapur. Located atop a hill to the east of the city, Shri Tryambuli Devi is known as the companion (sakhi) of Karveer Nivasini Shri Mahalakshmi and is revered as the ‘Guardian Deity’ (Rakshak-Devi) of Kolhapur.

According to legend, she joined Shri Mahalakshmi in battle to destroy demons. The two are known to be deeply bonded as dearest friends. It is believed that every year on Navaratri Panchami, Shri Mahalakshmi visits Shri Tryambuli Devi. The Idol of Shri Tryambuli Devi is simple and made of stone, and the temple, along with its surrounding area, is naturally serene. Devotees hold as much faith in Shri Tryambuli Devi as they do in Shri Mahalakshmi Devi.
