Urban Naxalites Sachin Mali and Sheetal Sathe entered the Wari through the ‘Constitutional Equality Dindi’!

  • Both are activists of the ‘Kabir Kala Manch’, declared a Naxalite organization by the Home Department !

  • Attempt to promote the urban Naxal agenda through rebellious ideology !

Sheetal Sathe and Sachin Mali

Mumbai, July 6 – Promoting the idea that “one should experience the Wari at least once”, Sachin Mali and Sheetal Sathe, who participated in the 2022 ‘Constitutional Equality Dindi’, had active involvement in Naxalite activities in Gadchiroli. After obtaining substantial evidence of their involvement, both were arrested in 2013 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). They are activists of the ‘Kabir Kala Manch’, which has been declared a ‘Naxalite organization’ by the Maharashtra Home Department. Both are atheists. While engaging in Naxal activities on one hand and participating in the ‘Constitutional Equality Dindi’ on the other is highly suspicious. This year too, some anti-superstition activists who do not believe in God participated in the Wari under the leadership of Avinash Patil of ANiS (Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti).

Sachin Mali and Sheetal Sathe have long been spreading rebellious thoughts in society through songs, folk performances, and ballads. Their songs like “We’ve put the deities aside”, and “33 crore gods, but not one key works” are still available online. These individuals, openly calling to put aside God, seem to be pushing the urban Naxalite agenda in the Wari under the convenient guise of the Constitution. Nationalists believe the police must thoroughly investigate all such possibilities.

Active Involvement in Naxal Activities

Between November 2011 and April 2012, both were found to be actively involved with Naxalites in the forests of Gadchiroli, as per information provided by then Deputy Inspector General of Police Ravindra Kadam. In 2013, Sheetal Sathe and Sachin Mali surrendered to police at the State Legislature complex. Sheetal was pregnant at the time, and it’s said they surrendered to avoid any risk. After their arrest, more than 50 letters were received from countries like France, Canada, Britain, Thailand, Portugal, and Germany, requesting that Sheetal not be mistreated in custody. This was confirmed by the police. The entire episode remains suspicious.

Why are atheistic ANiS members participating in the Wari ?

Sachin Mali, apart from being part of Kabir Kala Manch, was also active in ANiS. In his YouTube video titled “We’ve put the deities aside”, he himself admits: “When I joined the movement in 2001, I was working with ANiS.” In the same video, he also calls for support for Dr. Dabholkar’s work. In 2011, the Maharashtra Intelligence Department sent names of 62 organizations—7 with direct links and 55 with indirect ties to Naxalism—to all police superintendents and commissioners in the state. Among these, the Maharashtra ANiS was listed at number 50. Naresh Bansod, the Gondia district president of ANiS, was arrested by police on May 8, 2007, alongside known Naxalites Arun Ferreira and Dharmendra Bhurle. These incidents cast serious doubts on the activities of ANiS.

Urban Naxalites Entering the Wari: A Serious Matter

While in power, the Congress-led government had declared these organizations as Naxalite- linked, but now the same Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi is seen supporting them!

Does this mean the Congress-led alliance accepts Naxalism ?

Mumbai, July 6 – The Kabir Kala Manch was declared a ‘Naxalite organization’ and the Maharashtra ANiS as a ‘Naxalite-linked organization’ by then Home Minister R.R. Patil during the Congress regime in 2011. Yet, the activists of these organizations are now participating in the ‘Constitutional Equality Dindi’ in Pandharpur Wari. Given their Naxalite links, some Warkaris have demanded a probe into the presence of these urban Naxalites in the Wari. Although Congress initially branded them as Naxalite groups while in power, now the same Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi is defending them.

On July 2, MLAs from Congress, NCP, and Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray’s Shiv Sena staged a protest on the steps of the State Legislature in support of these organizations. During R.R. Patil’s tenure as Home Minister, a list of 72 Naxalite and Naxalite-linked organizations in Maharashtra was submitted to the Union Home Ministry. These names were even tabled in Parliament. The Intelligence Department had submitted a report confirming their Naxal links. Among these were seven actively Naxalite organizations, including Kabir Kala Manch—whose members are now participating in the Wari.

Editorial Perspective

What is the role of urban Naxalites in the Wari ? By participating in the Wari, could their intention be to create division in society or to carry out sabotage activities ? What action will the police take against them ?
