Travelled to Pakistan and several Muslim nations at least 40 times

Lakshmanpuri (Uttar Pradesh) – On 5 July, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested the kingpin of religious conversions in Uttar Pradesh, Jamaluddin alias ‘Chhangur Baba’, from Balrampur. A reward of ₹50,000 had been declared for his arrest. Jamaluddin used to present himself as ‘Haji Pir Jamaluddin’ and lured girls into conversion with promises and deceit. Notably, Hindu girls were priced based on their caste. To carry out this agenda, he had received ₹100 crore across over 40 bank accounts. Jamaluddin had travelled to Pakistan and many other Muslim countries at least 40 times. He and his associate, Neetu alias Nasreen, were arrested together.

1. Information was received that several suspicious individuals under names like Pir Sahab, Nasreen, Jamaluddin, Mehbub, etc., were residing in Madhpur village of Balrampur.
2. Investigation revealed that properties worth crores were purchased within a year using foreign funds, including bungalows and luxury vehicles.
3. Chhangur Baba would promote himself as ‘Pir Baba’ and ‘Hazrat Baba Jamaluddin’. He also published a book titled Shijar-e-Tayyaba, which he used to mislead and brainwash Hindus.
4. There is growing concern that this case may be part of an international conspiracy. The network is suspected to be connected to radical global organisations. The ATS may coordinate with the Enforcement Directorate, Intelligence Bureau, and National Investigation Agency on the case.
How did Chhangur Baba fall into the Police net?
In Lakshmanpuri, he trapped a girl by pretending to be Hindu. It was then discovered that he had formed a well-organised gang targeting Hindus and non-Muslims. Since then, Police had been tracking him. In November 2024, an FIR was registered against Chhangur Baba, his son Mehbub, and 10 others. Two accused were arrested on 8 April in connection with the same case.

How Hindu girls were priced for conversion:
1. Brahmin, Sikh, or Kshatriya girl: ₹15–16 lakh
2. Girls from backward castes: ₹10–12 lakh
3. Girls from other castes: ₹8–10 lakh
