Rape of minors in madarasas is an extremely common thing in Pakistan

Islamabad (Pakistan) – Thousands of minors have been raped by clerics (Islamic religious leaders) in Pakistan’s madarasas in the name of providing free religious education. These incidents are extremely common there. This horrific truth has been revealed in a documentary by the news channel ‘France 24’. In this documentary, children studying in madarasas in Pakistan have described in detail every incident that happened to them. The children said that the clerics who are responsible for providing Islamic education rape them. There are at least 17,738 registered madarasas in Pakistan, and an estimated 2.2 million children are educated in them.

The documentary says that although madarasas claim to provide free Islamic education to children from ordinary backgrounds, a systematic pattern of sexual harassment and violence has developed here.

The ‘France 24’ report cites the experiences of several witnesses. “I never thought something like this would happen to me,” said 14-year-old Hassan, the victim. The boy described how the cleric raped him. France 24 broadcast a video of the incident on his X account.
