Under his visionary leadership, the foundation has grown from feeding 1,500 children to now serving 15 lakh children daily. This makes it the largest NGO-run school meal programme in the world. Akshaya Patra has won the ICAI’s Gold Shield Award for financial reporting five times consecutively and has been inducted into their prestigious Hall of Fame.

‘The Padma Shri is a recognition of Akshaya Patra Foundation’s humble service’

‘The Padma Shri award I received is, in essence, a recognition of our humble service in leading the mission of nutrition and education for children in Government schools through the Akshaya Patra programme. It was the dream of Srila Swami Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON, that needy children should be served through food and education. That dream is reaching countless hungry children across the country through the work of our foundation. This is a source of inspiration for me and for all my colleagues at the foundation. These underprivileged children deserve quality food and education, which will help nurture them into citizens of good character. These children are the true wealth of our nation.
