US sells air-to-air missiles to Turkiye

A dangerous move for Greece, India’s friend and Turkiye’s hostile neighbour

Washington (USA) / Ankara (Turkiye) – The United States has signed a deal to sell AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles to Turkiye, a country that has repeatedly backed Pakistan in its actions against India. This was announced by the US Department of State. While the US is presenting this sale as part of NATO’s internal cooperation, from India’s perspective, the deal poses a significant threat not just to India but also to Greece, which is both a friend of India and a longstanding adversary of Turkiye.

There is often a near-war-like situation between Greece and Turkiye, and the addition of such advanced missiles to Turkiye’s arsenal only escalates the risk in the region.

Editorial Perspectives

  • How can India trust that Turkiye, a close ally of Pakistan, will not use these missiles against India someday ? The United States, which boasts about ‘standing with India in the fight against terrorism’, must be questioned by India on this issue.
  • US is no one’s friend. It is a trading nation that excels in profiting off global instability. India must remain extremely cautious when dealing with the US.
