Dargah chief Abbas Siddiqui and his brother Naushad Siddiqui, MLA from the Indian Secular Front behind the violence

After Murshidabad, violence by Muslims erupts in Bhangar, South 24 Parganas

Kolkata – Following the unrest in Murshidabad, violence erupted in Bhangar, located in South 24 Parganas District of Bengal, on the evening of 14April. Muslims engaged in arson and attacked both Hindus and Police officers. Several vehicles were set ablaze. The violence broke out during protests against the Waqf Act. So far, Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the incident. Preliminary reports suggest that the violence was incited by Pirzada Abbas Siddiqui, head of the Furfura Sharif Dargah, and his brother Naushad Siddiqui, an MLA from the Indian Secular Front.

1. According to Police sources and local residents, Abbas Siddiqui and his party, the Indian Secular Front, fuelled the unrest. It is alleged that Siddiqui incited the Muslim community against the Waqf Act, which triggered the violence. The protest was led by MLA Naushad Siddiqui. Locals claim that Siddiqui referred to the Waqf Act as an “attack on Muslims” to provoke the Muslim community.

2. Pirzada Abbas Siddiqui had previously stirred controversy in October 2021 by stating that “those who placed a copy of the Quran in a Durga Puja Pandal in Bangladesh should be beheaded.” He had also criticised Muslims who participated in Hindu festivals like Durga Puja, saying that if they were so interested in such festivals, they should leave Islam. (Why is someone making such statements not behind bars ? This is a question Hindus must ask the ruling Trinamool Congress Government – Editor)
