Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee Govt not providing land for India-Bangladesh border fence : Amit Shah

New Delhi –“The goons from the ruling party in Bengal are creating obstacles in closing the border with Bangladesh. They are misbehaving with the security forces who are trying to install a wire fence on the border. The Mamata Banerjee Government is also siding with these goons. The Government is not even providing land for the fence on the Bangladesh border,” informed Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha. On March 27th , Home Minister Amit Shah was speaking in the Lok Sabha on the ‘Immigration and Foreigners Bill’. The bill was passed in the Lok Sabha. Now it will be presented in the Rajya Sabha. After the passage of this bill, infiltration will be curbed. (Absence of a law that can curb infiltration in 78 years of independence is a shame for all the ruling Governments so far – Editor).

Points presented by Union Home Minister Amit Shah :

1. Our border with Bangladesh is 2,216 km long. Out of this, 1,653 km has been fenced, roads have been built near it. Checkpoints have also been built near the fence. Out of the remaining 563 km, fencing is not practical on 112 km due to geographical conditions. There are streams and rivers in this area, so fencing is not possible.

2. Why is there still 451 km of fencing to be done ? I have written to the Bengal Government 10 times; but the Government is not providing land for fencing. The Home Secretary has held 7 meetings with the Bengal State secretaries for 451 km of fencing; but they are not giving land. Wherever we go to fence, the ruling party workers come and create chaos and raise religious slogans. The Bengal Government is not able to fence 451 km. If Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gives land, this border will be closed.

3. When Bangladeshis or Rohingyas infiltrate, who gives them Aadhaar cards ? Most of the Bangladeshis caught have Aadhaar cards and voter cards from the 24 Parganas District of Bengal.

4. If the Bengal Government does not issue Aadhaar cards, no infiltrator can enter India.

Editorial Perspective

When there are such big issues in terms of national security, why doesn’t the Union Government dissolve Mamata Banerjee’s Government and impose President’s rule there ?
