Claim of meeting to bring about reconciliation between Pakistan and Taliban

Kuala Lumpur – Zakir Naik, a controversial religious preacher and terrorist icon who has been declared a fugitive in India, recently met Abdul Haq Wasiq, the Intelligence Chief of the Taliban in Afghanistan. He had recently visited Pakistan. In such a situation, Zakir’s meeting with Wasiq has led some to claim that he is trying to establish peace between Pakistan and the Taliban. Relations between Pakistan and the Taliban have been tense for some time now.
Wasiq is the big face of the Taliban
Abdul Haq Wasiq is a big name in the Taliban. Wasiq was the deputy director general of intelligence when the Taliban took control of Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001. He also oversees al- Qaeda training camps. He was arrested by the US military after the September 11 attacks. He spent 12 years in the US prison at Guantanamo Bay. Wasiq was appointed as the intelligence chief after the Taliban returned to power in Kabul.
