Stone pelting followed by attacks with sticks and sharp weapons
Devotees from Badarjimi village were raising funds for the construction of the Panchmukhi Hanuman Temple, ahead of a consecration ceremony and chariot procession scheduled for 20thMarch. As part of this effort, they were conducting awareness campaigns and collecting donations. Upon reaching Ijmali village in Siwan District, they were suddenly attacked. The injured Hindus allege that as they approached a mosque, an announcement was made from inside calling for an attack, following which stones and sticks were used against them. Some Muslim attackers also used sharp weapons. (Weapons have previously been found stored in mosques. Why does the Government not shut down such mosques? – Editor)
Among the injured, Nitish Chauhan, a resident of Mirganj, was critically wounded and has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Attacked for wearing saffron clothes
The injured Hindus have also alleged that they were targeted because they were wearing saffron-coloured clothes. They suspect that the attack was driven by religious extremism and was premeditated.
