12 Muslims arrested
Rampur (Uttar Pradesh) – On the night of March 7, in Secunderabad village, Muslims allegedly assaulted a temple priest over playing bhajans on a loudspeaker at the Shiva temple. The police arrested 12 individuals in connection with the incident but they were later released on bail by the court. Currently, police security has been deployed in the village.
In his written complaint, the temple priest Prem Singh stated that after playing bhajans on the loudspeaker, local residents – including Bhuri, Taufiq, Iqbal, Chhidda, Israil, Shaida, Shakeel, Munsa Ali, Gulnaaz, Anees and others – stormed into the temple premises, opposed the bhajans and hurled abuses. When I resisted, they dragged me out of the temple, assaulted me, and threatened to kill me if bhajans were played on the loudspeaker again.

SP Omkar Singh stated that a woman living next to the temple had asked the priest to lower the volume of the loudspeaker so that the Ramzan Azaan could be heard. This led to an argument between the priest and some villagers but no incident of physical assault took place.
