Information tabled by Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis
Mumbai – The action against Bangladeshi infiltrators has been intensified in the last few years. Action is being taken against the infiltrators every month but there is no stoppage in the flow of illegal migrants. From January 2021 to 15th February 2025, 2764 Bangladeshi infiltrators have been found and out of them, 2237 have been put under arrest while 527 infiltrators have been deported. Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis tabled this information on 05.03.2025 in the State Legislative Council while answering a ‘starred’ question related to Bangladeshi infiltrators.
The State anti-terrorist squad and local Police jointly take action every month and arrest Bangladesh intruders. A few Bangladeshi citizens are deported; still, new cases of Bangladeshi intruders are found with fake identity cards.
Bangladeshi intruders found in Maharashtra
Lands purchased with fake papers
One of the shocking matters is a few Bangladeshis have been issued fake identity cards on the basis of their PAN cards. It has been found in the investigations that those intruders have changed names and purchased lands at Mumbai and Pune. A Government officer who issued an identity card to a Bangladeshi intruder without properly verifying his papers at Haveli (Pune) has been issued a show cause notice. (Editorial Perspective : Instead of issuing such notices, such officers should be suspended from duty and punished with rigorous life imprisonment )
In 2 months, 251 Bangladeshi intruders arrested
Bangladeshi intruders have been mainly found in cities like Mumbai, Pune and Thane. In the months of January and February 2025, 251 Bangladeshi illegal immigrants have been arrested and 17 have been deported. Cases have been filed in 18 Police stations against Bangladeshi infiltrators for crimes in the State. It gives an idea about the gravity of the problem of illegal Bangladesh immigrants.
Editorial PerspectiveThere are more than 5 crore Bangladeshi illegal migrants. Compared to which, the action has been taken against only 0.005%. How will it help in putting a curb over infiltration ? For India, moving towards being the third largest economy in the world and its important part in the form of Maharashtra State, such situation is not expected. |
