‘Islamic State’ Aims to Establish a ‘Khalifa’ Rule in West Asia : United Nations Report

(Khalifa refers to a ‘successor’,’ruler’ or ‘leader’ who governs according to Sharia law.)

New York – In response to increasing counter-terrorism pressure, terrorist organizations like the Islamic State, Al-Qaeda, and others are strategically planning their next moves. The United Nations’ 35th report highlights that the threat posed by these groups remains active and ongoing.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has a clear objective – to establish a ‘Khalifa’ rule in West Asia. According to the report, “Al-Jawhar Media’, a pro-IS (Daesh) group has been spreading anti-India propaganda through its publication,’Sirat-ul-Haq’. (Despite suffering the most from terrorism, India has consistently raised this issue on international platforms. However, neither the United Nations nor other nations appear to be taking it seriously! – Editor)

1. The report states that more than 24 terrorist groups are active in Afghanistan. It highlights that these groups pose a threat not only to Afghanistan but also to neighboring countries.

2. According to António Guterres, secretary-General of the United Nations, “The situation in Afghanistan is alarming. Islamic State – Khorasan is posing a threat not just to the country but to the entire region and beyond. Guterres has urged all UN member nations to unite in preventing Afghanistan from becoming a central hub for terrorist activities that could impact other countries.

3. To expand its presence in neighboring countries Al-Qaida – an active group in Afghanistan – is making efforts to strengthen its ties with regional terrorist organizations such as Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, The East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) and Jamaat Ansarullah.

4. In the Indian subcontinent, the cooperation among TTP, Afghan Taliban and Al-Qaida has increased . According to the report, they are carrying out attacks under the banner of “Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan.”
