Jamui (Bihar) – Hindus returning after recitation of Hanuman Chalisa were attacked by religious fanatic Muslims by pelting stones near a mosque in a Muslim dominated area. Many vehicles were also damaged. Ten devout Hindu activists including a few women were injured in the attack. There is tension in the area and internet facilities have been suspended. Police have arrested a few persons in this connection.
Activists of ‘Hindu Swabhiman Sanghatana (HSS)’ went to Baliyadih village of Jamui to recite Hanuman Chalisa. They were returning after recitation of Hanuman Chalisa when their vehicles were attacked by a mob of 300-400 fanatic Muslims.
The glasses of vehicles were broken by the fanatic mob, pelting bricks and stones at Hindus. Around ten activists of HSS including its district president Nitesh Kumar and an activist of ‘Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’, Khushboo Pandey.

- Muslim women and children were among the attackers as per the news reported by ‘New 18 Bihar’.
- Khushboo Pandey, who got injured in the attack, stated that the programme of recitation of Hanuman Chalisa was at Bholeshwarnath Temple in Baliyadih. After taking ‘prasad’, on their way back, they were suddenly attacked. Their vehicles were damaged amidst the slogans of ‘Allah-o-Akbar’ raised during the clashes. There was a plot to target her and even attack the Police but she was saved with God’s grace.
- Police are being accused of carelessness. Jamui Superintendent of Police (SP) Madan Kumar Anand said that a Police team present at the site informed senior Police officers as there was sloganeering against the people returning from recitation of Hanuman Chalisa. They tried to handle the situation at their level and asked the people to change their route. No explanation has been asked for from the Police and they have been suspended.
- A case has been registered by the Police against 8 persons; besides, 50 people have been registered as unidentified accused. Police arrested nine persons in this context and there is deployment of a large Police force in the area.
Editorial PerspectiveAttacks on Hindus religious processions near mosques are common. Such incidents will not stop till stringent action is taken. State Legislative Assembly elections are to be held soon in Bihar. In this background, it needs to be investigated if Hindus are being deliberately targeted. |
