Investigate the US funding used to make Nepal a ‘Secular Nation’

Nepal’s Rastriya Prajatantra Party MP Dhawal Shamsher Rana demands enquiry in Parliament

Kathmandu (Nepal) – Nepal’s Rastriya Prajatantra Party MP, Dhawal Shamsher Rana, has demanded a parliamentary investigation into the US funding behind Nepal’s transition from a constitutional Hindu Rashtra to a secular nation. It has been alleged that the United States provided $100 million (over ₹868 crore) to eradicate Nepal’s status as a Hindu Rashtra and promote religious conversions. MP Rana has called for the formation of a high-level enquiry committee to investigate the matter and urged a judicial probe to punish those responsible.

Key points raised by MP Rana :

1. The truth about which Nepali leaders received US funding must be revealed to the nation and the world.

2. There was never a public movement in Nepal demanding the abolition of its Hindu Rashtra status and its declaration as a secular state.

3. After the monarchy ended in Nepal, leaders of certain political parties introduced an interim constitution, in which Nepal was declared a secular nation.

4. Nepal has historically been recognised as the world’s only Hindu Rashtra. Hence, there is a growing demand in Parliament to reject secularism and reinstate Nepal as a Hindu Rashtra.

Editorial Perspective

An investigation should also determine whether only the US was involved in this funding or if China played a role as well. Additionally, the extent of China’s interference in Nepal must be thoroughly investigated !
