US was giving Rs 182 crore for voter turnout in India : Accusation by Elon Musk, Chairman, DOGE

Cancellation of Funds given by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)

Washington – Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by Elon Musk, a billionaire, is bent upon cancelling projects run in other countries on America’s money. Musk accused American institutions of sending US $21 million (around Rs 182 crore) to India for increasing voter turnout. It may also be noted that a project worth US $29 million (around Rs 251 crore) for changing the political situation in Bangladesh has also been cancelled. Musk has called USAID a criminal organisation. In fact, President Trump said that a bunch of radical lunatics was running USAID and he was getting them out.

Editorial Perspectives

  • It is a known fact that the funds were given under President Joe Biden’s administration by ‘Deep state’. It was given for increasing voter turnout in India and there is no need to mention the political party which received the fund and for whom.
  • Congress Party had created ruckus to cancel the electoral bonds (a method of giving funds to political parties in India). Now, the issue of American funds has cropped up; therefore, whether Congress was getting these funds from America should be investigated.
