Saraswati Puja banned at Jharkhand Govt’s ‘Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences’

Order revoked after strong opposition

Ranchi (Jharkhand) – In an outrageous development that occurred recently, a ban was imposed on celebrating Saraswati Puja at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). An order was issued to cancel the event, which had been held annually for many years. The administration of RIMS directed students to stop all preparations for the puja at the last minute and return the donation money. However, due to strong opposition, the order to cancel the event was revoked.

Health Minister Irfan Ansari

1. Every year, students collectively organise Saraswati Puja at RIMS. This event is usually organised by second-year MBBS students. For this year’s Saraswati Puja celebrations, students had collected donations worth lakhs of rupees and had made all arrangements. Around 70% of the work had already been completed.

2. Dr. Shashi Bala Singh, the Dean of RIMS, suddenly issued an order to cancel the puja on 25 th January. Students expressed their displeasure with this order.

3. RIMS Neurosurgeon Dr. Vikas Kumar also raised his voice against the order. In a post shared on ‘X’, he stated that senior officials at RIMS are directly attacking the cultural traditions of the country to hide their own inadequacies, which is condemnable from every perspective.

4. The BJP strongly opposed this order. After significant opposition on social media, RIMS reversed the ban.

BJP accuses Health Minister Irfan Ansari’s anti-Hindu mentality behind the order

The BJP also targeted the Jharkhand Government on social media. Babulal Marandi, BJP’s State president and former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, accused Health Minister Irfan Ansari of having a communal mindset, leading to the imposition of the ban. He described the action as promoting religious division.

Editorial Perspective

It should be noted that this is the result of Hindus re-electing the staunch anti-Hindu party ‘Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’.
