Court order on HJS’ petition against Dharashiv District Collector’s demand
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar – The Sambhajinagar Bench of the Bombay High Court on January 23rd rejected the Dharashiv District Collector’s application for permission to melt gold and silver belonging to Goddess Shri Tuljabhavani. The information was given to ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ by advocate Umesh Bhadgaonkar, who is fighting this case. The application has been turned down by the bench of Justice Mangesh Patil and Justice Shailesh Brahme. The temple’s decision to melt gold and silver offered at this temple was opposed by a few priests and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) by filing a PIL, on which, the Court announced the above verdict.
Pujya (adv.) Suresh Kulkarni, High Court lawyer and the founder of Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad (HVP), while giving more information to ‘Sanatan Prabhat’, stated,

1. There has been misappropriation of Rs 8.50 crore between 1991 and 2009 at Tuljapur Devasthan by the then trustees, Government appointed officers, elected representatives, contractors, etc. No action was taken at the by the administration such as filing a case or recovering the money from the guilty; therefore, HJS filed a petition with Sambhajinagar Bench of Bombay High Court.
2. In the petition, action was demanded against eight contractors, eight Government appointed administrators, and against the District Collector and Tehsildar, by filing cases against them. On 9th May 2024, the Court directed to file criminal cases against all the guilty. Later, Dharashiv District Collector filed a petition with Sambhajinagar Bench seeking permission to melt gold and silver received during 2009 to 2024, but HJS strongly opposed giving such a permission.
3. HJS expressed strong suspicion in its petition that the permission to melt silver, gold was sought to cover up the malpractices, corruption that happened during 1991 to 2009.
4. Pujya (adv.) Suresh Kulkarni and Umesh Bhadgaonkar had demanded on behalf of HJS that permission to melt gold should not be granted to Dharashiv District Collector since the petition filed by the Government with the Supreme Court challenging the earlier decision of Sambhajinagar Bench for not filing cases in connection with misappropriation of temple funds, has been still pending.
