London – British Finance Minister and Labour MP Tulip Siddique recently resigned from her ministerial post. She is the niece of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Siddique was accused of lack of transparency and corruption regarding her assets in London. Tulip Siddique, in a letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, said that she has always acted with transparency and on the advice of officials; but she decided to leave the ministerial post due to these controversies. Experts have expressed the opinion that her relationship with Sheikh Hasina was a major reason for her resignation.
An independent review has confirmed that I have not breached the Ministerial Code and there is no evidence to suggest I have acted improperly.
Nonetheless, to avoid distraction for the Government, I have resigned as City Minister.

The British Prime Minister has accepted Siddique’s resignation. The Prime Minister said that no evidence of any financial irregularities or breach of ministerial rules has been found against her. Labour MP Emma Reynolds has been named the new Finance Minister.
Sheikh Hasina is currently in India and has been granted political asylum by India.
