(Ulema: Islamic scholars who oversee whether religious laws are being followed)

Bengaluru (Karnataka) – Ulema in the State met Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President B.K. Hariprasad, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and demanded that three ministerial berths be allotted to the Muslim community. Ulema from 14 districts urged the Congress leadership to induct Salim Ahmed and two other Muslims into the State Cabinet during its expansion.
The Ulema stated that Salim Ahmed has been active in the Congress Party for the past 40 years and enjoys popularity among the people. They therefore appealed to Congress leaders to give him an opportunity.
