Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) – The District administration has opened the locks of the 200- year-old Siddheshwar Temple in the Muslim-dominated Madanpura area of the city. Several Shivlingas have been found inside. Puja is set to commence in the temple after January 15th.
1. Since Madanpura area is a Muslim-dominated area, some Hindu organizations had demanded the immediate opening of the temple. The administration inspected the temple and opened the locks of the temple. The temple is said to be 200 years old. The Archaeological Department has also considered this temple to be from the medieval period.
2. Ashok Singh, professor of archaeology at Banaras Hindu University, said, “When you see this temple, you realize that it is very old and belongs to medieval India. It is a Nagara style temple. The main Shivalinga here is missing; but among the many Shivalingas here, one Shivalinga is old and appears to be from the medieval period. When this temple opens to the public, we will go to see it and then our team will survey the temple. We will study how old this temple is.”
