‘Kashmir can never forget January 5 th’: Pak PM

  • Pakistani Prime Minister spews venom once again

  • Pakistan raises the issue of referendum in Kashmir

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif

Islamabad – January 5th was celebrated in Pakistan as ‘Kashmir Self-Determination Day’. On this occasion, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif once again raised the issue of referendum by making several allegations against India. “Pakistan has always been in favour of the right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to have a referendum. We will continue to support the Kashmiris politically and diplomatically in the future as well,” said Sharif.

Shahbaz Sharif further said that it is unfortunate that the people of Kashmir have been deprived of their right to a referendum for 7 decades. The international community, including the United Nations, should comply with their promises so that the people of Jammu and Kashmir can exercise their right to a referendum.

History of January 5th, 1949

On January 5th, 1949, the United Nations adopted a historic resolution guaranteeing a free and fair plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir. The United Nations had decided that the decision on whether Kashmir should remain with India or be given to Pakistan should be made through a democratic and fair referendum.

Editorial Perspective

If Pakistan is demanding a referendum in Kashmir, then India should also demand a referendum in Balochistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, which are on the verge of secession from Pakistan.
