Can Our Collective Consciousness Mitigate Climate Change ?

Baku, Azerbaijan – The spiritual research conducted jointly by the Maharshi Adhyatma Vishwavidyalay (MAV) and Spiritual Science Research Foundation (SSRF) on spiritual aspects of climate change was presented in the International Conference at the ‘Faith Pavilion at COP29’ organized by the United Nations (UN) from 12th to 22nd November 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Mr Sean Clarke (of MAV) was invited to be a keynote speaker.

Delving into the root causes of climate phenomena, this research revealed insights that differed from mainstream scientific narratives, providing a more comprehensive understanding of how we should focus our efforts on mitigating climate change and global warming. This research is conducted under the guidance of Sachchidananda Parabrahman (Dr) Athavale.

Spiritual research findings showed that 98% of the causes are due to cyclical changes the Earth is currently transitioning through. Only 2% is due to human behaviour. Mr Clarke shared that, compared to earlier models at the time of the Paris Agreement, climate change is progressing faster than previously anticipated, with its impact more widespread and severe than models initially projected. This rapid escalation rate aligns with the spiritual research predicted in 2006, as the root causes are not only physical but spiritual in nature.

Mr Clarke explained that as per the Ancient Indian Scriptures, the Universe goes through cycles and mini-cycles of Time or Kaal, where depending on the upper or lower end of a cycle, there is a predominance of Sattva (Spiritual purity) or Tama (Spiritual impurity) components.

The heightened Tama component has a ubiquitous negative impact on the five Absolute Cosmic Principles of Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether that control the environment on Earth and the climate. As a result, the negatively affected Cosmic Principles get imbalanced and give rise to erratic weather patterns and natural disasters.

Nature strives to restore balance when spiritual pollution reaches critical levels. This restorative process often manifests through extreme weather events and natural forces. The world understands what efforts are to be made at the physical level. However, this is not enough. We need to make efforts at the spiritual level too. We need to increase spiritual purity in our lives and the environment.

Mr Clarke presented spiritual research examples with tangible proof of how spiritual purity can affect the 5 Cosmic Principles. For example, the effect of mantras on a flame. With all else kept constant, the flame’s height changes with mantras, showing the 5 Cosmic Principles’ response to sattvikata. Another example – The aura of the water bottles from adjacent flats in Mumbai was measured with the Universal Aura Scanner. The water bottle from the flat where the residents practised Spirituality showed a positive aura, while the one from the home where Spirituality is not practised showed a negative aura, demonstrating how human actions can influence the environment.

To increase our collective consciousness means increasing the spiritual purity in ourselves and the environment. Chanting the Name of God results in the purification of the mind and generates the ability to take decisions, resulting in spiritually purer vibrations.
Mr Clarke added that world leaders should think differently by promoting the Ancient Indian Knowledge Systems within the modern curriculum, being cognizant of not only physical polluters but the biggest spiritual polluters of the world and recognizing the karmic impact of their choices.  He ended by saying – With the baton that time has entrusted our generation with, we run the race of our lives to protect Mother Earth for us and for our future generations.

Mr Clarke met many distinguished Environmentalists and the Indian Diaspora during the event who appreciated MAV’s unique spiritual research. Particularly, Mr Santosh Gupta (CEO, I.S.R.N) and Mr Ashwani Khurana (Environmentalist and CEO of Karma Lakelands)applauded MAV’s efforts to combat climate change.

In the past 8 years, MAV has presented research papers in 20 National and 96 International Science Conferences. Of these, MAV has received ‘Excellent Presentation’ Awards in 14 International Science Conferences
