Dhaka (Bangladesh) – “General elections in Bangladesh may be scheduled for late 2025 or early 2026. I have always insisted on implementing key reforms before elections. If political parties agree on necessary reforms, elections can be held by the end of November 2025,” said Mohammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to Bangladesh’s interim Government. On 16th December, Bangladesh celebrated its 53rd Independence Day. Yunus paid tribute to the martyrs at the National Memorial in Dhaka. Bangladesh gained independence from Pakistan in 1971 with India’s assistance.
1. Mohammad Yunus stated that those voters who have been eligible for the past 15 years, will be included in the electoral roll. With many young people voting for the first time after the student protests, we will ensure the voting process remains flawless, he said.
2. Eight Indian soldiers and two officers who participated in the 1971 war arrived in Dhaka to attend Bangladesh’s Victory Day celebrations.
3. On 16th December 1971, 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered to Indian forces, marking Bangladesh’s independence from Pakistan.
Editorial Perspective
Following the violence in August, an interim Government was formed under Yunus’s leadership with elections were promised within next three months. However, Yunus now states elections are unlikely for another year, exposing his intent to establish autocratic rule and perpetrate atrocities against Hindus. |
